The big-name cast director Garry Marshall has assembled for the follow-up to his similarly star-studded 2010 romantic comedy looks like it's expanding by a few more big names. Marshall had already roped in folks like Robert De Niro, Ashton Kutcher, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hilary Swank, Jessica Biel, Lea Michele and Abigail Breslin for the project. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Sarah Jessica Parker has signed on for a role, while Zac Efron and Halle Berry are in negotiations to join the cast as well.
Like "Valentine's Day" before it, "New Year's Eve" tells a series of intertwined, romantically comedic stories, this time set in New York in the run-up to the last night of the year. Parker will play Breslin's mother, a woman overly reliant on spending time with her daughter. Efron would play a bike messenger promised tickets to a big party if he helps Pfeiffer accomplish her New Year's resolutions. Berry, who just received a Golden Globe nomination for her turn in "Frankie and Alice," would play a caterer who runs into an ex.
Marshall had been gearing up to begin shooting the flick this month, but a production start date in New York has been pushed back to February 1. However, second-unit shooting will take place in Times Square during this New Year's Eve. The film is set for a December 9, 2011, release.
Marshall's "Valentine's Day" featured stars like Julia Roberts, Jessica Alba, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Jamie Foxx, Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift. The film went on to reel in $56.3 million over its opening weekend and finish with more than $213 million in worldwide box-office receipts.
