Kid Scoop: Cymphonique's Big Break, SpongeBob Returns, Bakugan, and a Famous Little Engine

With each serving of Kid Scoop, we share the latest news in the world of kids' TV and movies, so YOU can be the know-it-all for a change. This week's scoop includes news about Cymphonique, SpongeBob, Bakugan and The Little Engine That Could.

Cymphonique Fantastique?
If you're familiar with both Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique and the teen sensation Cymphonique, then get ready for a full court media press. The daughter of rap mogul Master P and sister to singer/actor/basketball player Romeo, Cymphonique, 14, will be starring in Nickelodeon's upcoming sitcom How to Rock Braces and Glasses. Based on an upcoming book series, the show focuses on a teen girl, Kacey, whose popularity takes a dive after she gets braces and glasses. (Not to nitpick, but aren't there invisible alternatives to both nowdays?). Per the laws of kid fame, Kacey naturally performs music for encouragement and inspiration.

Though this is Cymphonique's first big break, she's previously worked on a number of Nickelodeon and Disney shows, including True Jackson VP, Just Jordan and Phineas and Ferb. As a singer, she’s toured with Ashley Tisdale, Raven Symone, Demi Lovato and JoJo. Just don't ask Cymphonique to whip her hair.

More SpongeBob!
In news that would only be unwelcome to Squidward, a ninth season of SpongeBob SquarePants has been approved and will premiere in 2012. During that season, it will become the first Nickelodeon cartoon to reach a 200th episode (Sorry Tommy, Chuckie and Angelica of Rugrats. See you someday on E! True Hollywood Story). The top TV show for kids ages 2-11 for the last 10 years, SpongeBob is currently translated into over 25 different languages.

Big Screen Bakugan
Bakugan is coming to the big screen! That may be exciting news for only some of you, but that some will be extremely excited. Director Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid, Agent Cody Banks) is set to helm the film, which is based on the popular game and Cartoon Network TV series.

The Little DVD That Might
Appealing to an entirely different audience, a new The Little Engine That Could movie will be released on DVD this March. Not so little are the celebrities who lend their voices to the project, including Whoopi Goldberg, Jamie Lee Curtis, Patrick Warburton, Brenda Song, Corbin Bleu and Alyson Stoner. Fifty cents from each DVD sold will go to the Starlight Children's Foundation.

Does Cymphonique have what it takes to be the next big kid star? Chime in now!
