Kara DioGuardi Accidentally Ate Pot Brownies -- at Paula Abdul's House!

In a funny interview with George Lopez on Wednesday's Lopez Tonight, former American Idol judge and Grammy-winning songwriter Kara DioGuardi talked about the dangers of being Paula Abdul's roommate. Rule no. 1: Don't eat the brownies, or you'll end up in the E.R.!

One night, DioGuardi, who stayed with Abudl while trying to make it in the music biz, scarfed down six miniature brownies the maid had left in the fridge -- only to discover hours later that the little nuggets of deliciousness had been laced with marijuana.

"Six hours later... I was like, 'What's going on?'" She finally called an ambulance for herself. She regales a stunned Lopez with the rest of the story: "I fell out of bed, on the floor... and the ambulance comes, and the guy is like, 'This b*tch is high as a kite!'"

DioGuardi says that she spent the next three days recovering in bed. "I almost died!" she says. "I was hallucinating, I was on an IV, it was bad news!" But she was quick to assure Lopez's studio audience that she doesn't smoke pot, and that the brownies had been left at Abdul's house after a party. "They weren't hers!" she insists.

Though DioGuardi is no longer on American Idol, she doesn't seem to have let her tumultuous stint as a judge on the hit show -- or her exit from it -- stop her momentum. She now has a Clear Channel radio show, a new reality series, Platinum Hit, airing on Bravo, and a memoir titled A Helluva High Note (in which she shares her stories of a traumatic past) in stores.

Plus, she may have even helped get Steven Tyler his Idol gig! She tells Lopez of an afternoon spent with the Aerosmith frontman that led her to recommend him as a judge to the producers of American Idol. Tyler's first question to DioGuardi was, "Does (American Idol) get good ratings?" DioGuardi said to Lopez. "See, I love that!"

Tyler's stint on American Idol was very well-received, and DioGuardi jokes, "I feel like I should get a finder's fee!" (Watch the interview below.)
