Yesterday, Meredith Vieira publicly clarified her reasons for leaving NBC's Today. (It's not about dropping out to care for her ailing husband, but simply a decision to spend more time with family, she told People.)
Now an inside source at her old gig, ABC's The View, says that Barbara Walters would love to have Vieira, 57, back at her table. The stars of The View already have a more flexible work schedule than Today hosts because of the shorter hours and the fact that The View films Monday through Thursday, with Friday's show taped on Thursday.
And Walters is even open to part-timers. "Don't forget when the show started Joy Behar was part-time," a former senior producer for the show told Popeater. "She wasn't on every day. Having Meredith back if only for a few days a week would make Barbara very, very happy. She never wanted her to leave in the first place."
But Vieira recently told OnTheRedCarpet.com that she's interested in staying with NBC. "I have a great relationship with the folks at NBC and I'm very loyal to them, so if we can figure out something there, within the family, then I will work there," she said. She might even end up helming a View rival. Asked if she would have a daytime talk show, she replied, "I don't know! I wish! Fingers crossed."
