Rihanna on Chris Brown: "I Lost My Best Friend"

Leave it to Oprah to get to the bottom of Rihanna's relationship with Chris Brown.

The 24-year-old pop star is put in the hot spot on the upcoming episode of Oprah's Next Chapter, which airs this Sunday on OWN. Oprah wasn't afraid to ask Rihanna to look back on her controversial affiliation with 23-year-old Brown, who put her in the hospital after physically assaulting her in 2009. The performers have since made up, collaborating on two new remixes and reportedly hooking up on and off throughout 2011. But it's clear that there is still a lot of hurt and anger between them.

"It was embarrassing. It was humiliating. I lost my best friend," Rihanna says of her experience.

Fans likely won't be happy to hear Rihanna call Brown her best friend, as many rebelled when she did something as innocent as follow him on Twitter. But it seems like she's at the point where she doesn't care what other people think of their relationship.

"I was resentful. I held a grudge. I was dark," Rihanna says of her feelings post-split. "I'm super-duper afraid of the pedestal that comes with fame."

 

 

We certainly have been witness to Rihanna's flip-flopping opinions of Brown since the incident three years ago. In early 2011, Rihanna agreed to lift the restraining order she had placed against Brown. But she told Rolling Stone at the time that she would be happy if he was never a part of her life again.

"That's my decision," she said. "It doesn't mean we're gonna make up, or even talk again. We don't have to talk ever again in my life."

Of course, they soon did make up. (And rumors said they did a bit more.) But Rihanna has always been protective of her relationship with the rapper.

"This is turning into a tacky interview," she snapped at an Esquire reporter when he asked her about her decision to collaborate with Brown again. "Do you want to talk about everything on Google? Or do you want to talk about stuff that my fans want to know? Let's get to the real stuff. The stuff that's important."

Rihanna has yet to fully openup about her current relationship with Brown, so we're intrigued to hear what she has to say to Oprah. Tune in to Oprah's Next Chapter Sunday at 9 p.m. EST to see how it plays out.
