It turns out that Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Ryan Lochte is not as much of a lothario as his mother would have us believe.
Earlier this week, Lochte's mother Ike told Today -- in an interview that quickly went viral -- that her son is single and "goes out on one-night stands." But Ryan, who turned 28 today, tells Us Weekly that what Mom actually meant to say is that he goes out on a lot of one-off dates. Slight difference.
"They took it out of context. My mom is really new to all of this and the media," Lochte tells Us. "She meant since the last four years I just wanted to focus on swimming, and I didn't really have time for a relationship."
Whoops! But that's still a pretty big gaffe to make. Ladies nationwide are likely breathing a sigh of relief over the news that Lochte isn't as much of a player as his mother accidentally implied. In fact, he actually seems like a bit of a sweetheart.
"When I'm in a relationship, I want to give that person my entire heart and I wasn't able to ever do that because of swimming. I'm always on the go. So what she meant is that I do go out on dates," Lochte explains. "But its not that thing that everyone is talking about, because that's not me. I've never done that and never have been like that, so I don't want people to think that about me."
With that being said, Lochte has implied that things get frisky between the athletes at Olympic Village.
"I'd say it's 70 percent to 75 percent of Olympians [who are having sex]. Hey, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do," he told ESPN prior to the Games. "My last Olympics, I had a girlfriend -- big mistake. Now I'm single, so London should be really good."
Now that he's finished competing in London, Lochte can focus on his personal life (at least until he starts training for the 2016 Rio de Janiero Games). So what is his perfect woman like? "She has got to make me happy and trust," he recently tweeted in response to a fan's question. "Of course I wanna get married and have kids."
But first he gets to celebrate winning five medals -- two gold, two silver and one bronze -- at the London Olympics.
"I'm done and I'm relieved! I'm excited that the Games are over," he tells Us. "The last four years have been really hard. I'm happy with how well I did. I'm happy with my overall performance."
