Despite whatever rumors you might have heard, Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi are not looking to bring children into the world.
There have been rumors about the couple's alleged desire to procreate for years, and recently some stories have claimed that the talk-show host has been on the hunt for the right male donor to help her and de Rossi give birth. But DeGeneres, 54, is ready to set the record straight!
On Sept. 6, the comedian visited Tonight Show with Jay Leno to promote the upcoming 10th season of her daytime talk show -- and she firmly shot down reports that she and her wife, 39, will be having a baby.
After deadpanning to Jay Leno that she was "here for your sperm," the funnywoman got serious. "Not, that is not true. I don't know why people want this. I've said it so many times: We are not going to have a child. And they say that we're looking for the right donor."
She added to Leno jokingly, "You would be a good donor, so I'll keep it in mind, just in case. I mean, it would have beautiful blue eyes, and a good sense of humor, and a good shot at a NBC show. We would do well."
As anyone who has seen DeGeneres' talk show knows, it's not that she doesn't like kids. And though de Rossi frequently plays characters who can't deal with children on shows like Arrested Development and Better Off Ted, we're sure she'd be a great mother as well. They just aren't interested in everything that goes along with raising children.
"I don't want to have one. I don't want to have six. I don't want to have any," DeGeneres says. "They're precious to look at and I love them; we have nieces and I love them very much. [But I] don't want 'em."
This isn't the first time DeGeneres has had to set the record straight about the chances she and de Rossi will give birth. She made it clear in her 2011 book Seriously...I'm Kidding that children weren't in the cards for the couple.
"People are constantly asking Portia and me if we are going to have children," DeGeneres wrote. "We thought about it. We love to be around children after they've been fed and bathed. But we ultimately decided that we don't want children of our own. There is far too much glass in our house."
