PHOTO: Matthew McConaughey Looks Shockingly Thin In New Photos

The more pregnant Camila McConaughey becomes, the skinnier her husband Matthew McConaughey looks. And he's looking pretty emaciated nowadays. 

The new look isn't because our favorite surfer dude -- pictured with his mom on Oct. 7 -- has suddenly taken on an eating disorder. Instead, he's slimmed down for his new role in the movie The Dallas Buyer's Club. He's portraying Ron Woodroof, a real-life man from Texas who contracted HIV from drug use during the 1980s. After he learned about his disease, Woodroof began smuggling medicine from Mexico to prolong his life.

The film started shooting in September, and McConaughey's weight loss is not expected to continue past this point. He's not the first actor to dramatically lose weight for a role, with Christian Bale now famous for the weight he dropped in movies like The Machinist and The Fighter. Still, it's a bit shocking to see the usually healthy and buff 42-year-old looking so sickly.

Back in July, McConaughey sat down with Larry King and explained why he had lost so much weight. He had already lost 15 pounds at that point in time and said he had 15 more to go.

"I should not look healthy by the time I'm doing this," he said.

And he doesn't. But McConaughey at least had a good mindset going into the weight loss.

"I'm kind of looking at it as a cleanse; it's a bit of a spiritual cleanse, mental cleanse," the actor said of his strict diet. "[I'm] drinking a lot of tea. It takes a while for your body to understand that it has to feed off of itself and that you're not going to give it something else from the outside."
