For weeks now, she's been teasing fans with snippets of her upcoming Metals album, but late Thursday night, Feist finally gave us all the real deal: a full audio stream of the record's first single, "How Come You Never Go There."

The song — a sultry piano ballad infused with staggering guitars, smoky vocal harmonies and a few bars of stabbing horns — finds Feist lamenting a love who, as the title implies, just won't "go there," leaving her feeling alone and lost as a result. It's the first taste of her much-anticipated Metals (due in the U.S. on October 4), the follow-up to her 2007 Grammy-nominated breakout The Reminder. And while the song is a departure from the pastel-colored sonics of that album's biggest hit ("1,2,3,4") it still brings to mind other Feist songs, like the propulsive "My Moon My Man" or the sepia-tinged "Brandy Alexander."

In other words, we expect long-suffering fans to be very happy with what they hear ... and it only makes the anticipation that much greater for Metals' debut.

The new album will feature 12 tracks, including "The Bad in Each Other," "Cicadas and Gulls" and "Get It Wrong Get It Right" and finds her re-teaming with producers Chilly Gonzales and Mocky, who produced much of The Reminder. Feist has been posting a series of vignettes documenting its recording on her website, and will hit the road in support of the disc beginning in October.
