Kevin Federline "Really Happy" for Engaged Britney Spears

The dark days are over for Britney Spears and Kevin Federline. Though the ex's suffered through a pretty bad divorce back in 2007, it seems like they have put all those negative feelings behind them and are in a happier place. At least, Federline seems genuinely upbeat about Britney's recent engagement to her former manager, Jason Trawick.

"I'm really happy for her," the former rapper tells Australia's TV Week magazine (via Daily Mail). "I think (Jason)'s a great guy."

Spears, 30, has been dating Trawick, 40, for two years now, and Federline popped the question on Dec. 16 with a dazzling Neil Lane diamond engagement ring,.

Federline, who's currently in Australia filming the celebrity weight-loss reality show Excess Baggage (he's doing well after a brief hospitalization there), says his and Spears' sons Sean, 6, and Jayden, 5, are also pleased with the announcement.

"She's happy; she's doing really well. I want to say she's in a good place," he says of Spears. "I haven't spoken to her much since I've been over here, both of us have been busy with her being on tour, but I do know from talking to the kids and talking to the kids' teachers that they're doing really good."

As Federline and Spears share joint custody of their sons, the reality star has had the opportunity to meet Trawick several times and says he has his stamp of approval. "He's a really good guy, I've heard a lot about him," Federline says. "I've spoken to him quite a few times as of now. He seems like a really good guy. The kids speak highly of him. Her family loves him."

When People spoke to Lane, the engagement ring's designer, he echoed those sentiments and suggested that Spears and Trawick are in it for the long haul.

"He's deeply in love with her. Britney is his princess and he is her knight in shining armor," Lane says. "Jason's protective of her. He adores her. Every good fairytale needs a princess, and now Britney has a ring fit for a princess!

Apparently Trawick didn't even pick up the ring until about a week before he popped the question. "Oh my god, he loved it," Lane says. "The guy was so excited and nervous. At the end of the day, even with all the fame, he's still a normal guy who was about to propose to the woman he loves."
