Amy Winehouse's Dad Blames Her Ex for Her Addiction in New Memoir

Amy Winehouse's Dad Blames Her Ex for Her Addiction in New Memoir

Amy Winehouse's father Mitch Winehouse says he has a difficult time listening to his daughter's pivotal album Back to Black, because so many of the songs were inspired by the late singer's ex-husband.

In his new memoir Amy, My Daughter, Mitch blames Blake Fielder-Civil for enabling Winehouse's descent into serious drug abuse. Winehouse has been open about his thoughts on the destructive nature of Amy and Blake's relationship, so it's not surprising he pointed to her ex as the cause of her downfall.

According to the Associated Press, which acquired a copy of the memoir (scheduled to hit bookstores June 26), Mitch prefers Amy's first album, the jazz-focused Frank, because Back to Black reminds him of Fielder-Civil, whom Amy married in 2007 but later divorced in 2009.

"Long before Amy was an addict, no one could tell her what to do," he writes. "Once she became an addict, her stubbornness just got worse. There were times when she wanted to be clean, but the times when she didn't outnumbered them."

Winehouse goes on to admit that he never understood why his daughter fell for Fielder-Civil, whom he considered an industry "hanger-on." The memoir details the various times Mitch butted heads with and confronted Fielder-Civil and members of his family.

"It wasn't as if he brought much good into her life, or so it seemed to me," he writes.

Amy Winehouse died of accidental alcohol poisoning last July at age 27.
