'The Real Housewives of New York City' Returns for Season 5: What's in Store?

On the new season of The Real Housewives of New York City, it's out with the old. (Buh-bye, Jill Zarin, Alex McCord, Kelly Bensimon and Cindy Barshop!) And in with the new. (Newbies Aviva Drescher, Heather Thomson and Carole Radziwill have entered the ring!) Based on some promos of the fifth season premiere (Monday, June 4, at 9 p.m. EST on Bravo), the remaining originals, Sonja Morgan, Ramona Singer and LuAnn de Lesseps, still have plenty to gripe about. For one thing, de Lesseps is nursing a grudge against Singer for her season 4 comment that de Lesseps is a "weekend mom." Also, we can't wait to see what finally pushed the Countess to deliver this gem of a line to Ramona: "What other dirty tricks do you have to pull out of your pinot-filled hat?"

From what we can see, Singer isn't showing any signs of loosening up. Upon meeting Thomson, a shapewear designer, Singer contemptuously comments on the new Housewife's aggressive conversational style. This belies a) her staggering lack of self-awareness and b) a foretaste of where this season's battle lines will be drawn. Watch here: 

These two are not the only ones primed to inspire some viewer eye rolling this season. Bravo seems to have cast other women who are equally difficult to relate with. "Are we part of the 1 percent?" asks Radziwill, a novelist and former ABC News reporter during the season preview clip. A wealthy widow -- she married Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' nephew Anthony, who was a prince! -- appears to be asking the question over lunch at a tony bistro. This one is an easy one to answer, Carole -- yes, you are in the 1 percent! 

Meanwhile, the socialite and amputee Drescher (who's married to Fran Drescher's cousin) appears to be riddled with phobias. She's also seen squaring off against Morgan and Singer in the teaser. But considering the quirks that both these ladies bring to the party, it's hard to say who might have started those conflicts. One thing is for sure, this season will be a lively one!
