Box Office: "The Bourne Legacy" & "The Campaign" Spurn Strong Movie Weekend

Finding a newcomer perched atop the pack for the first time in the past month, "The Dark Knight Rises" has been dethroned by "The Bourne Legacy" in the battle for box office supremacy over the weekend of August 10-12, 2012.

The latest installment in the Tony Gilroy directed action/adventure franchise, which stars Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz in the leads, garnered an approximate $15 million on opening day while taking in an estimated $44 million for a first place inaugural weekend finish.

Offering up a more solid than expected second place worthy performance on its opening weekend was runner-up "The Campaign," as the Will Ferrell/Zach Galifianakis fronted political comedy nabbed $11 million on Friday with a predicted three-day cume of $27.4 million.

Filling out the top five at the box office in expected totals are last weekend's three-time chart-topper "The Dark Knight Rises" ($19.5 million), followed by the Meryl Streep and Steve Carell helmed theatrical newcomer "Hope Springs" ($15.6 million) and the David Bowers directed family comedy "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days" ($9 million).
