Robin Roberts Leaves 'Good Morning America' One Day Early

This week, Robin Roberts announced that she would be taking medical leave from Good Morning America in order to begin treatment for her rare blood disease. The journalist had planned for Friday to be her last day hosting the show -- but today she revealed that she's taking off early.

"I'm having to move up my schedule," Roberts, 51, announced during the show on Aug. 30. She then explained that she'll be flying home to Mississippi first, to visit her sick mother, Lucimarian. She will then start her own health journey.

To treat her disorder, myelodysplastic syndrome, Roberts will first undergo a bone-marrow transplant, with her sister Sally serving as the donor. After the surgery, Roberts will focus on her recovery -- and she has no idea how long it will take. The anchor, who first revealed her diagnosis in June, admitted during Thursday's show that she has "no timetable" for her return to GMA.

"Just know that I'm going to come back here as soon as I can," she said.
