Global Showbiz: FremantleMedia Names Worldwide Drama Head, Doha Film Institute Appoints CEO, UK TV Tax Credit
FremantleMedia’s Donna Wiffen To Head Worldwide Drama Just ahead of the Mipcom TV market in Cannes next week, FremantleMedia has promoted Donna Wiffen to head of worldwide drama. The move frees up Claire Tavernier, previously senior executive VP of FMX and worldwide drama, to focus solely on FMX, the company’s new media division. Wiffen will support drama strategy and production including the development, acquisition and roll-out of all scripted formats. She was formerly SVP production and network for drama. FremantleMedia is bringing US dramas to Cannes next week including political series Battleground, the first original drama from Hulu that the company is offering as part of their first-look deal. The 13 half hours are exec produced by JD Walsh, Hagai Shaham and Marc Webb. Doha Film Institute Gets New CEO The Doha Film Institute has appointed Abdulaziz Al-Khater as CEO. He was previously at Al Khalij Commercial Bank and has held senior positions with International Bank of Qatar and HSBC. The DFI, which promotes the Qatar film industry, also oversees the Doha Tribeca Film Festival and invests in films that are made locally. The fourth edition of the film festival runs from November 17-24 and kicks off with Mira Nair’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist, a film the DFI developed.
