Earlier this week, Nicki made Fashion Week headlines when she was photographed sitting next to Anna Wintour during the Carolina Herrera Spring 2012 show. She wore a colorful rainbow, shoulder padded dress completely covered in neon pom-poms. The fashion world went crazy about Nicki's originality. BUT.. was it a blatant rip off of another designer Nicki was previously working with?
Deets inside...
According to reports, Nicki's colorful pom pom top was a blatant copy of an up and coming designer, Jessica Rodgers, who has worked with Teen Vogue, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and others.
Rodgers says she sent Nicki Minaj's stylists pictures of her designs so they could possibly collaborate, but they never responded. After seeing photos of the YMCMB rapstress in (allegedly) her publicized designs, all she could do was cry because she was so devastated. She says:
“When I saw the photos, I was in tears. I’ve worked very hard to make my dream of being a fashion designer come true. I have built contacts with Teen Vogue, Gaga, Katy Perry, and Marina and the Diamonds has worn my garments. [Now,] I feel like everything has crumbled down…I am very upset by the fact that she was sitting next to Anna Wintour. I admire Anna Wintour very much and I was hoping that one day she would see my garments and it would be the first time that she would see Puff Balls used as i use them.”
There's always three sides to every story. And Nicki has yet to speak on this. So you decide. Who's to blame? Nicki? Her stylists?
Here's some more of Jessica's designs HERE.
