Celebrities and rehab go hand-in-hand, and Gerard Butler has reportedly been receiving treatment at the Betty Ford Center for substance abuse issues.
According to TMZ, the “P.S. I Love You” hunk began using prescription pain medication back in 2006 while filming “300,” and it’s been an ongoing battle ever since.
In December, Butler suffered a serious injury while working on “Of Men and Mavericks,” causing him to realize he needed help with his struggle.
Gerard decided that he was ‘relying too much on prescription drugs’ and wanted to get treatment before his habit became a debilitating addiction. He’s been in Betty Ford Center for three weeks and will be released today.

Jay-Z is 'so far up there it's almost a discredit putting him on the list,' The-Dream tells 'RapFix Live.'

When MTV News crowned Rick Ross the #1 Hottest MC in the Game, the entire hip-hop community seemed to take notice. The-Dream, who worked with a number of the artists on our Hottest list, including Big Sean, Drake and Jay-Z, has his own pick and revealed to "RapFix Live" who he believed should've taken the #1 spot.
"The top MC in the game to me is Kanye," he said.
Last year Yeezy dropped the groundbreaking tag-team album Watch the Throne with 16-year rap veteran Jay-Z. For The-Dream, it's hard to judge Hov simply because he has done too much in his career. So if it were up to the Atlanta-based singer/songwriter, he'd leave the God MC out of the debate entirely. "Jay shouldn't even be on the list anymore," The-Dream argued. "He's so far up there that it's almost a discredit putting him on the list. He's never gonna be judged the same."
The term "hot" is a relative one, and according to The-Dream, the heat index can change quickly. "That list is gonna keep fluctuating, but I think it's a disservice to what Jay has done to even put him on that list period," he said. "If he was a new rapper, right now, he'd be #1 on the list."
With Hov taken out of the discussion, the self-proclaimed Radio Killa, who also wrote on 'Ye's "All of the Lights," sees his pal Kanye at the top of the game at the moment, but it's close; he believes Lil Wayne has a case as well.
"I think Wayne and Kanye kinda go back and forth, it just depends on when Wayne's up for it, I think. When you push him and he's up for it musically he's great," The-Dream said. "Then there is certain points ... they're pushing each other and then Kanye goes. There's something musically I can tell when somebody has an edge on someone else."

'Wanderlust' co-star Paul Rudd also rules out a 'Clueless' sequel during 'MTV First.'

"Friends" fanatics hoping for a reunion of the beloved sitcom will be crying into their oversized Central Perk coffee cups when they hear what Jennifer Aniston has to say about the possibility of seeing Rachel, Ross, Phoebe, Monica, Chandler and Joey back together again.
Aniston joined her "Wanderlust" co-star Paul Rudd for "MTV First" to take Twitter questions from fans — one of whom happened to be film critic and entertainment journalist Ben Lyons, who got a little ribbing from the two stars as well as MTV News" Josh Horowitz for not asking the question himself, before the team got to his question: "What will we see first? A "Clueless" or "Friends" reunion?"
The actress" reaction was slightly flustered but swift. "No, there will be none," she said. "I don't think so. ... Wouldn't that be weird? I would be like, "Oh god, why did they do that?" "
Rudd also answered in the negative regarding a reunion of the beloved "90s teen flick, crushing the hearts of fans who may be wondering what became of Cher (Alicia Silverstone) and Josh's (Rudd) relationship. "Well, you know, "Clueless" was "Emma," " Rudd said of the movie's literary inspiration, which had no sequel. "So I don't know what you"d do."
The comely pair also told MTV News that they wouldn't be a good fit for the commune lifestyle their "Wanderlust" characters are thrust into in the film, which hits theaters Friday.
"I don't think I could exist realistically in that kind of setting," Aniston told MTV News. "But there's a version of that groups of friends in close proximity [and] in my early 20s, I had that. Where you kind of showed up at each other's houses — very similar to the friendship show."
One particular element of commune living does not appeal to Aniston and that is the, um, sharing of partners. "I don't think that's an end-well situation," she said. "But there are a lot of people who do it."
Always quick to the joke, Rudd added, "A lot of them live in Paris."
Check out everything we've got on "Wanderlust."

Santi tells MTV News she plans to use 'fun props' when she unveils her new single, 'Disparate Youth,' at the March 15 show.
By James Montgomery
Santigold
Photo: Lizard King Records
Santigold was announced Thursday (February 23) as the first performer at the 2012 mtvU Woodie Awards, and from the sound of things, she'll be bringing her A-Game. Or at least her props.
"The show now involves some umbrellas; we try to use fun props onstage and make it look like a real show with, like, props and a lot of cool choreography," she laughed. "We have a lot of fun onstage, and we'll definitely put that into the show."
Santi may be the first artist confirmed for the Woodie Awards — set for March 15 in Austin, Texas, during the South By Southwest music festival — but she's far from the only name attached to what has quickly become a daylong event. For the first time, the show will expand to include an open-air music festival, which kicks off at 2 p.m./1 p.m. ET/CT and features an eclectic bill that includes Fun., A$AP Rocky and just-announced additions like Chiddy Bang, Kimbra and Ed Sheeran.
It's a move that reflects the anything-goes ethos of SXSW, which is just one of the reasons Santi agreed to take the stage at the Woodies ... that and the fact that she's got previous Woodie-related experience.
"I played the Woodies several years ago [in 2008], and it was a lot of fun. The show is a great platform for artists, all kinds of artists, and I like that it is happening during SXSW," she said. "I love it down there, love all the different bands you get to see. When they asked if I'd like to perform this year, I didn't even think about it. I just said 'yes,' it was a no-brainer."
During the show, Santi will be unveiling her brand-new single, "Disparate Youth," the first taste of what fans can expect on her upcoming Master of My Make-Believe album (due this spring). It's sure to be a highlight, though, for her Serbian fans, it'll also be nothing new.
"We've been doing 'Disparate Youth' for a while — I've been working on these songs live; I tried to work on these songs as much as I could outside of the country," she said. "I think the first time I performed 'Disparate Youth' was in Serbia. It was cool. It went over pretty well, I've got to admit."
The Woodies Festival will be held on Red River and East First Street in Austin and is open to both SXSW badge-holders and music fans alike. The entire fest will stream live on Woodies.mtvU.com and leads up to the awards themselves. On Sunday, March 18, the best moments from the Woodies will be broadcast during a 30-minute special airing on MTV and mtvU at 8 p.m. ET.
Voting is also under way in all Woodies categories, and remains open until March 9. Voting in the Breaking Woodie category will continue during the live show March 15. Fans can cast ballots in all categories through the Woodies website, on their mobile phones at M.MTV.com or by texting VOTE to 66333. Standard message and data rates may apply.
The Woodies invade SXSW on March 15 with the Woodies Festival. The best of the 2012 mtvU Woodies will air on MTV and mtvU on March 18 at 8 p.m. ET.

As we count down the days to Sunday's awards show, we check up on last year's Oscar darlings.

With less than four days to go until Hollywood's main event, our Oscar thoughts are zeroed in on this year's lucky nominees and potential winners. With all the hullabaloo surrounding this year's awards season, it's easy to forget about the shining stars who took home Oscar gold last year.
Here's a look at what 2011's Oscar darlings are up to now:
Colin Firth
After taking home the Best Actor award for his memorable performance in "The King's Speech," Firth has kept himself very busy with a role in the critically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated ensemble spy drama "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," and has a slew of projects lined up for release in 2012 and beyond: the Coen brothers-scripted "Gambit," co-starring Alan Rickman and Cameron Diaz; "Arthur Newman, Golf Pro," with Emily Blunt and Anne Heche; West Memphis Three-based thriller "The Devil's Knot" with Reese Witherspoon; and the next installment in the Bridget Jones franchise, "Bridget Jones' Baby."
Natalie Portman
Portman has followed up her Best Actress win for her chilling, unforgettable performance in "Black Swan" with a very different, but far more weighty role: motherhood. Portman and her dancer/choreographer fiancé, Benjamin Millepied, whom she met during the filming of "Swan," welcomed son Aleph in June. Portman has kept out of the public eye since giving birth, but she did make an appearance with Millepied at the Golden Globe Awards. Portman's next gig is Terrence Malick's film "Lawless" alongside Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara and fellow 2011 Oscar-winner Christian Bale.
Christian Bale
Last year's Best Supporting Actor is certainly not hurting for work. Bale will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated and likely final Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises," followed by back-to-back films with Oscar nominee Terrence Malick in "Lawless" and "Knight of Cups."
Melissa Leo
Leo has followed up her Best Supporting Actress win for "The Fighter" with a full slate of upcoming films. The seasoned Hollywood veteran will appear in "Predisposed" with Jesse Eisenberg and Tracy Morgan; Robert Zemeckis' return to live action, "Flight," with Denzel Washington and John Goodman; "Something in the Water"; and "Prairie Bones." She will also lend her voice-acting talents to the animated film "Dwegons."
Tom Hooper
Last year's Best Director winner is certainly not sitting on his laurels. Of all of last year's winners mentioned here, Hooper might be tackling the most challenging post-Oscar-win project of them all. "The King's Speech" helmer has chosen to take on a big-screen adaptation of one of literature's most classic and beloved stories of all time, Victor Hugo's "Les Miserables." Did we mention it's a musical? It is. Hooper certainly has the credibility to deliver a faithful adaptation. Not only that, but he's assembled a very capable cast that includes Hugh Jackman, Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Russell Crowe and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Snow White herself shows off fantastical forest, crumbling village and dwarves' cottage during MTV News' set visit.

When "Mirror Mirror" hits theaters March 30, moviegoers will be transported to an enchanted land of snowy forests, old-timey villages and lavish castles for a classic retelling of the Snow White fairy tale. But why wait that long when you can get a sneak peek behind the scenes right now?
MTV News' own Josh Horowitz was lucky enough to visit the "Mirror Mirror" set and received a guided tour from Snow White herself, Lily Collins.
"This is where I live," Collins declared while welcoming MTV News to the snowy forest set of the film. She was quick to caution that, unlike real snow, the white stuff piled throughout the woods wasn't exactly appetizing. "It's salt," she warned.
"This is the forest as you can see, obviously. The dwarves' tree house is somewhere in these woods. The majority of the action takes place here," Collins explained. "And I'm in big ball gowns running around in this wood. I'm fighting with Armie [Hammer]."
From the forest, Collins took MTV News to another soundstage, where a dilapidated village was constructed. The place was in disrepair — and, of course, it was all Julia Roberts' fault. "It has seen better days, yes," Collins told MTV News. "The story is that the queen [Roberts] has spent all the money, and so the village is poor."
Next, the 22-year-old "Abduction" actress introduced Josh to the dwarves' cottage, which features several small beds and a shorter-than-usual kitchen table.
"This is the classic, iconic dwarves' house, as you can tell by the little things around. So much goes on in this house," the actress said. "Everything from the iconic waking up scene with the dwarves and I [to] Armie — imagine Armie, how tall he is, he is in here quite a bit."
The lovely actress even invited Josh to stay in the cottage. "Don't you want to stay? Take a little bed up there?" she asked. Alas, none of the beds built for the seven dwarves would be a good fit and Collins knows it, having given them a go herself. "I tried fitting in one of those too; they're really small," she admitted.

The-Dream is ready to take his show on the road. In preparation for his Love IV album, the singer/songwriter is getting ready to embark on a new tour, and on Thursday (February 23), he's planning to drop a new song to commemorate the run.
The Kill the Lights Tour will begin March 11 in New York, and The-Dream is dropping his new single of the same name. "The name of the song is actually 'Kill the Lights,' featuring my artist Casha," he said on Wednesday's "RapFix Live."
The song will be featured on the upcoming Love IV, which the ATL crooner estimates will be out in the spring or summer — he doesn't want to put an exact date on it. The-Dream already dropped the LP's first single, "ROC," earlier this year, and in addition to his new LP, he wants to concentrate on grooming Casha, who made her first appearance on The-Dream's free digital album 1977 singing a remake of Minnie Riperton's "Love, Stop Making a Fool of Me."
"I'm just channeling and building her the right way and giving her the right time," he said of his new artist. "I'm not trying to get, 'She better come out and sell this'; I'm not doing that. She's too talented for that."
Instead of creating microwave hits with Casha, The-Dream would rather take his time. "She's going to sell on her own, she's great, she'll be fine," he said. "I'm trying to slow-bake it."
What are you expecting from The-Dream's new music? Let us know in the comments!

'American Idol' judges aren't looking to hop on the 'Moves Like Jagger' bandwagon with their own collabo, Lopez tells MTV News.

The usual rule in Hollywood is that if something works once, it's probably worth doing it again, and again, and again, and then maybe once more just to make sure the concept hasn't run out of legs.
But even though "The Voice" mentors Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera smashed digital sales records with their collaboration "Moves Like Jagger," don't expect "American Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez to follow in their fancy footsteps.
"None of us are kind of followers in that way," Lopez told MTV News when asked if she and Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler might consider putting their very different pipes together to see if they could capture their own lightning in a bottle. "We kind of do what feels right, and anybody that's been in the business a long time knows that you don't chase."
You could see why they might consider it, though. Since joining the revamped "Idol" panel last year, Lopez and Tyler have helped set a standard for how career artists can reboot their fortunes by making a move to prime time. Aerosmith's back catalog sales blew up, while Lopez scored her biggest hit in years with the "Idol"-promoted single "On the Floor."
Despite that visibility, the singer said she's not into leading from behind. "You set the trail. You go out front, and anything that we do is something that feels good to us," she said, leaving the door open just a crack. "If that happened, it would happen. If a performance happened, it would happen. But it would have to feel real. ... Last year, we talked about performing together on the show for the finale, and we just couldn't agree on the same thing that felt good for all of us, so we just didn't do it."
Get your "Idol" fix on MTV News' "American Idol" page, where you'll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.

Five officers filed a defamation suit against Game in 2006 following the MC's arrest at a North Carolina mall.
By Rob Markman

Game's pockets are about to become significantly lighter. On Tuesday, a North Carolina appeals court judge ruled that the Documentary MC pay $5 million in damages to five Greensboro police officers upholding a 2006 ruling, according to a report for local North Carolina affiliate My Fox 8.
The suit stems from an October 2005 incident, when Game was arrested at the Four Seasons Town Centre mall in North Carolina. Originally, Game was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct when he went into the mall to sign autographs wearing a mask. Mall security said that the rapper was wearing a full-face Halloween mask and cursing loudly. When Game was asked to leave, he refused and was arrested soon after.
The rapper's crew filmed the arrest and included an edited portion of it in a DVD titled "Stop Snitchin', Stop Lyin'," a documentary-style film Game co-produced. The five officers filed a defamation suit against the rapper in 2006. The suit accused Game and Bungalo Records Inc. (a second producer of the film) of libel and slander, claiming their identities were wrongfully used.
Now, the five arresting officers (Hien Nguyen, Matthew Brown, Ryan Childrey, Romaine Watkins and David Gregory) will receive $1 million each for compensatory damages. The officers are also seeking an additional $10 million in punitive damages, but the appeals court decided a new trial would be set for that particular ruling.

Aniston and co-star Paul Rudd dish on baring it all during our 'First' tomorrow at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com!
By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz
Jennifer Aniston
Photo: MTV News
In the lead-up to the release of the new comedy "Wanderlust," much has been made of Jennifer Aniston's purported nude scene in the film. But when MTV New's Josh Horowitz sat down with Aniston and co-star Paul Rudd for our MTV First on Wednesday, the actress waved off the scene.
"Yeah, big deal!" Aniston said, insisting that most of the talk around the scene was just sensational. "Isn't that a good, fun headline? That's what happens."
"Wanderlust" — fans can preview an exclusive clip when we launch our "First" special Wednesday at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com — takes place at a commune, where two down-on-their-luck New Yorkers, played by Aniston and Rudd, seek refuge. And when you consider that "Wet, Hot American Summer" helmer David Wain was behind the camera, nudity may seem tame. For Aniston, the scene was just another part of the job.
"At that point, we had been shooting the movie for two months, two-and-a-half months, and the amount of things that we were asked to do that we were just like 'All right,'" Aniston said. "At that point, that was like putting on my shoes."
The duo share the experience of onscreen skin, a fact Aniston felt compelled to share. "You've shown your butt," she said to Rudd.
"Many times," he replied.
"And onscreen as well," Aniston joked. "In the makeup chair, he always never had clothes on."
"I had to get dressed for the shots," Rudd replied. "But when we weren't shooting, I was hanging brain, as it were."
For Aniston, nudity has to matter for where the character is heading in the story, and a crazy, purposeless nude scene would never work. "I think it depends on what the movie is. It felt like it would be gratuitous to do that in a movie like this and it would be more distracting from the movie and what was happening to the character," she explained. "It would all be about, 'Oh, you're naked, so it's boobs onscreen,' so it would totally lose the fun and the empowering moment [my character], Linda, was having in that scene."
One of Aniston's co-stars, however, does show a fair amount of skin, even if he's wearing a prosthetic penis.
"Joe Lo Truglio, the first night he came out with his prosthetic penis, within five minutes we were all touching it," Aniston revealed. "We were touching it, and we were examining it. It was just so interesting. It was just right there, underneath it. I think first night of shooting, I could resist, there was the beginning of many, many butt slaps."
Catch Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston tomorrow on MTV at 7:56 p.m. ET, when they'll debut an exclusive, never-before-seen clip from "Wanderlust." Then head over to MTV.com for our 30-minute chat with Rudd and Aniston.

'If you like a movie, heck, you can call it 'Dirt,' ' Andrew Stanton says of dropping 'of Mars' from the title.

After decades in development limbo, the hero of Edgar Rice Burroughs' novel, "John Carter of Mars," will finally find his way onto the big screen with the guidance of director Andrew Stanton. But when he gets there, he'll have dropped the "of Mars."
After a rather controversial title change, the classic title "John Carter of Mars" became the shortened and genre-neutral "John Carter."
For fans of the original Burroughs novels, this came as a move away from the beloved source materials, and Stanton admitted to MTV News' Josh Horowitz that the change concerned him initially as well. "At first, I bristled, to be really honest. You can't control people's first impressions as much as you'd like," he said. "There are just a lot of people that assume that it's this weird astronaut/ space thing when you have 'Mars' in the title."
The change took time to accept, but with it, Stanton found a new angle of the story to explore. "Even then, I wasn't going to be swayed, but then I realized, 'Wow, the movie's really about a guy that becomes John Carter of Mars,'" Stanton said. "I don't want to reveal any spoilers, but then I sort of thought, 'All right, so now that actually makes sense. Maybe I can pull something that I haven't seen people do in a movie before.' "
But what's in a name? Stanton said that if he made a movie people can love, then not much. "My feeling is, if you like a movie, heck, you can call it 'Dirt,' and they'll call it whatever for the rest of the time it exists," Stanton said.
The title change was among Disney's several marketing choices that took heat from fans. But Stanton said he understands the challenge of marketing one of his unorthodox films, like his last movie, "WALL-E."
"Disney's been changing hands, so it's been a little bit of all hands on deck, but I feel we're finally in good hands and we're settling in," Stanton said. "It's not like anything else exactly. I'm used to giving Disney movies that they're not used to selling, so I knew it would be a bumpy road, to be fair to them."

Troubled Teen Mom star Amber Portwood is considering NOT taking a plea deal because it would effectively end her reality TV career, according to reports.
Amber is supposed to be released from jail into the care of a halfway house this week after pleading guilty to possession of a controlled substance.
She may end up changing her plea, however, so she can continue shooting Teen Mom as much as possible, sources tell E! News. Why on Earth ...
Portwood, who faces up to five years in jail if she violates probation, is not going to change her plea because she wants to sit in a cell instead.
It is true, though, that the drug court that's allowing Portwood to rehabilitate at the halfway house has ordered the facility not to allow cameras.
For Amber Portwood, this is a very big deal.
Last week, she said she had been under the impression that she would be allowed to live with her grandparents and film Teen Mom while fulfilling the terms of her sentence (counseling, regular check-ins with the court, etc.).
Being ordered to a halfway house caught her by surprise.
In order to stay out of jail, she was ordered to spend eight months at the halfway house and get a full-time job ... one that does not involve TV.
The third season of Teen Mom is set to premiere April 3, so that would leave Amber SOL and without the paycheck she's come to depend on.
As such, Amber decided Saturday that she may rather "do her time now and get it out of the way," and the halfway house is "not the right place for her."
It wouldn't be the full five years, presumably, if she did agree to serve jail time. We are probably talking about a couple of months, tops.
After which, she would be free to film, without stipulations.
"The system doesn't want Amber to succeed," a friend said. "She needs to stay in the entertainment industry. There are no jobs in Anderson (Ind.). She needs to finish her schooling. She can't do all of that with a $7-an-hour job."

Dame Judi Dench is fighting to keep her vision after being diagnosed with macular degeneration. And, in an interview with the U.K.'s Mirror, the 77-year-old Oscar winner reveals the shocking extent to which her eyesight has already deteriorated.
"I can't read scripts any more because of the trouble with my eyes," Dench admits. "And so somebody comes in and reads them to me, like telling me a story."
The worst part of her condition, says Dench, is that she can no longer clearly see people's faces, even across a dinner table. Not only does this problem affect her social life, but Dench, also an accomplished stage actress, now has trouble enjoying a night at the theater.
"I know there might be something going on but sometimes I can't see it," says Dench of watching actors onstage, "and that infuriates me as I think I'm really missing out on something."
In order to slow the effects of macular degeneration, Dench is taking eye injections. She says she's gotten used to reading by very bright light and listening to audio books. And she is resolute that her loss of vision won't interfere with her life or career.
"As long as there is a possibility of working I'm not going to retire," vows Dench, "because if I retire nothing will work any more and it's hard enough as it is."
It's tough to imagine Dench working much harder than she is now: Last year, she appeared in four feature films, including My Week with Marilyn and J. Edgar. Her upcoming films including the British comedy The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and the next James Bond movie, Skyfall. Her deteriorating eyesight is sad news indeed, but we're guessing it will take a lot more than that to slow Dame Judi down!
And, although some media outlets have responded to this news by insinuating that Dench is going blind, the actress insists that's not the case.
"In response to the numerous articles in the media concerning my eye condition -- macular degeneration -- I do not wish for this to be overblown," Dench says in a statement to Reuters. "This condition is something that thousands and thousands of people all over the world are having to contend with. It's something that I have learnt to cope with and adapt to -- and it will not lead to blindness."

It's almost like Oprah gifted her celebrity friends with one of her favorite things--a cable network! But it wasn't her doing. Diddy, Tyler Perry, Magic Johnson are just a few of the powerful celebs who have announced (more) immediate plans for their very own tv networks.
Deets inside...
After previous reports said this was coming down the pipeline, Sean "Diddy" Combs made his official announcement today to reveal REVOLT, his new cable TV network he has teamed up with other investors to create.
According to the network, it is described as follows:
REVOLT is a revolution in music on television, a place where artists and their viewers come together and engage with technology and social media. It's a channel where new artists can share their work in the way it was meant to be: raw, uncut, and uncensored. REVOLT was selected by Comcast to be the first music network to truly leverage the power of social media, fueling the live music dialogue and influencing the music culture for the video-centric generation.
Hopefully this won't be a channel mainly used as a platform for Diddy/Bad Boy projects. But it's a huge deal nonetheless.
REVOLT was selected as one of four new minority-owned independent networks to be broadly distributed on Comcast Cable systems between July 2012 and January 2014. Diddy commented:
I'm honored by the opportunity to be part of this effort to bring diverse programming to the masses. Marked by this partnership with Comcast, my hope is that this new network will spark a revolution in entertainment and encourage other media and communications companies to bring REVOLT to their audiences.
I'm thrilled to be at the helm to usher in a completely new model of television that brings together the artist community, social media, and cutting edge technology. The opportunity to create a home for music, artists, and fans to communicate in an authentic way is truly unique. REVOLT will celebrate and recreate the platform that helped launch my career, and give the world a new way to experience music on television.
Check out the video above of Diddy talking about his new network.
Entrepreneur and NBA Hall of Famer Earvin “Magic” Johnson, in partnership with GMC TV, also has a network project scooped up by Comcast called Aspire.
Aspire is dedicated to delivering enlightening, entertaining and positive programming to African-Americans families, including movies, documentaries, short films, music, comedy, visual and performing arts, and faith and inspirational programs. it's also set to celebrate the successes, achievements and accomplishments of the African-American community and create new opportunities for the next generation of African-American visionaries. The network will launch by summer 2012.
Magic commented:
“Aspire will be a network that encourages and challenges African-Americans to reach for their dreams and will appeal to all generations. Aspire will celebrate our heritage, our groundbreaking achievements and the fearless talent that has shaped American culture. I’m most excited about Aspire creating opportunities for the new voices, new visions and the next generation of storytellers."
Fab!
Meanwhile, Tyler Perry hit up Jay Leno's show recently and confirmed his new tv network. He said he's contemplating naming it TylerVision (but reports also say "Tyler TV" is being considered). And no, he won't be competing with Oprah's OWN.
Tyler already has umpteen shows on TBS and even more movies under the Lionsgate brand. So Lionsgate is teaming up with Mr. Perry to launch his own cable tv network.
On how a Tyler Perry cable venture might be rolled out, Lionsgate "could buy and rebrand a not-fully distributed channel, or pursue a “nesting strategy” with a channel it already has, including TV Guide."
BONUS: Bounce TV, the nation's first-ever, free broadcast television network marketed exclusively to African-American audiences, launched recently and director Will Packer and businessman Andrew Young are at the helm. HuffPost Black Voices has the story.
I'm all about minority ownership. So all of this gets a thumbs up from me. Congrats fellas!

Back in olde tymes, if something was a hallmark of consistency and dependability, it was proclaimed to be "so reliable you could set your watch to it."
This was high praise, and not just because watches were, like, the iPhones of their day (minus "Angry Birds," of course). No, there was a time when reliability was actually celebrated in this country, and everything unerring, unchanging or uninterrupted — from Studebakers to Johnny Unitas' haircut — was thusly awarded watch-setting status.
Not surprisingly, that's not exactly how things work anymore. Although, one could make the argument that Adele is doing her best to bring reliability off the back burner (back burners were also fairly common back then, both as a heating source and a simmering surface). Exactly one year ago today, she released her blockbuster 21 album in the U.S., and in the 52 weeks since, it's not only broken records, won an armload of Grammys and singlehandedly revitalized the record industry, it's also become the most dependable thing since Johnny U's flattop.
To wit, 21 has spent a staggering 40 percent of the past year atop the Billboard albums chart, has never been lower than #7, and has held steady in the top three since December. It not only survived challenges from Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Beyoncé and Rihanna, but sold more copies than all their records combined. Its songs have landed on the Billboard Hot 100, Adult Contemporary, Alternative, Dance, R&B, Rock, Pop and Latin charts and have become so ubiquitous, they were a running gag in a "Saturday Night Live" sketch. It won so many Grammys they just might let Adele give Neil Portnow's keynote speech during next year's telecast.
In short, it has become the kind of thing you can set your watch to — a permanent fixture in popular culture. And, really, when was the last time you could say that about anything, let alone an album?
What's even more amazing is the fact that 21 has accomplished all this almost in spite of Adele herself. She battled vocal issues for most of the year and has played just 34 North American shows in support of the disc. In fact, besides a few television appearances, there's a pretty good chance you haven't actually seen her sing any of the songs off the album, though you've certainly heard them on innumerable radio stations. In that regard, 21 is not only a true crossover sensation, it's a throwback to the glory days of the industry itself, when a handful of singles could push an album for months at a time and platinum plaques were handed out like bottles of water.
One year ago, did anyone think this was possible? Can anyone adequately explain everything that has happened since? The answers are probably "no" on both counts, though for one day, perhaps it's best not to try and figure these things out. Because for 52 weeks, 21 has been so dependable, so dominant, that it has almost become more than just a mere album. It has become the rare zeitgeist-uniting sensation, a career-defining work, a constant in increasingly intermittent times. It is seemingly not of this era, only it has somehow come to define this era, and it shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
All those accomplishments not only merit genuine awe, but a well-deserved pause too. As remarkable for its massive sales as it is for its consistency, 21 has spent the past year proving everyone wrong and, in the process, might very well have established the new gold standard for reliability, circa 2012: You can set your iPhone to it. History in the making, people.
Where were you a year ago when Adele's 21 was released? Let us know in the comments!

Well damn Toni. The eldest Braxton sister is looking every bit the fabulous singer that she is these days. Pics of her showing off her killer thighs at her performance last night at the Nokia Theater in L.A inside...
We see her every week battling her sisters and re-igniting her career on WeTV's "Braxton Family Values." And last night, the 40 something performer (her listed birthday is different in different places--some say 10/7/1966 while others say 1967 and 1968) donned a House of Chapple (Reco Chapple) purple sheer extreme waist high slit and backless gown for her performance.
Word has it she's in talks to become the newest judge on Simon Cowell's "X Factor." She's made it known publicly (via Twitter) she would love the opportunity. And we've also learned she's been spotted at the X Factor offices for meetings over the past few weeks.
And if this dress looks familiar....
Remember this 2001 GRAMMYS look? She's still got it...

Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer was brutally attacked by a group of three women outside a West Virginia movie theater this weekend, according to reports.
The 19-year-old mother of twins, who just miscarried in her second pregnancy, is telling friends and family that the incident went down Sunday night.
Leah Messer says she had just left the theater with her new fiance, Jeremy Calvert, when an older woman began following her and calling her names.
Leah insists she tried to tell the woman to leave her alone when two other girls came out of nowhere and all three began wailing on her hardcore.
Sources say Leah's fiance and a security guard managed to pull the three assailants off the MTV star and got Messer the hell out of the area.
A photo of her face following the brawl shows the poor blonde with a swollen cheek and redness on her neck and chest ... this was a serious melee.
Messer apparently did not recognize any of her attackers, but Leah's mother has since gone to Twitter in an effort to try and identify the women.
It's equally unclear why the goons decided to go after her in the first place. Sources say Leah plans to follow up with police later today to file a report.

Drew Barrymore's Big Miracle is in theaters, but does she have a little miracle growing inside her? TMZ has a photo of the recently engaged actress leaving a Beverly Hills doctor's office this past weekend with what appears to be a sonogram clutched in her hand -- giving rise to speculation that Barrymore and fiance Will Kopelman might be expecting their first child together.
While a quick wracking of our brain couldn't come up with any scenario other than pregnancy for Barrymore to be strolling around the parking lot of a doctor's office with a sonogram in hand, we suppose there could be some alternate explanation. And Barrymore's rep hasn't made matters any clearer, responding to all inquiries into Drew's potential pregnancy with a standard-issue "no comment."
Barrymore, 36, first stepped out with her art consultant beau Will Kopelman, 34, in February 2011 -- and they announced their engagement Jan. 5, 2012. And, even if Drew isn't currently pregnant, a source told People last month that the couple is eager to become parents.
"Drew is so motherly," the source told the magazine at the time. "Will would like to be a dad. Family is so important to him."
In other words, let the bump watch begin!
