American history is full of exceptional first ladies -- but we bet none of them could do what Michelle Obama did Thursday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show! Obama, 48, showed off her impressive physical fitness skills when Ellen DeGeneres, 54, challenged her to a push-up contest. Watch the clip below to find out who won!
Naturally, the first lady took the prize, proving that her famously toned arms aren't just for show. While DeGeneres was getting shaky after 10 push-ups, Obama was still maintaining perfect form at 25. But even though Michelle didn't break a sweat on TV, she made it clear that she works hard for her toned bod.
"I get up 5:30 or 6:00, it depends what's going on in the day," Obama told DeGeneres, modestly denying claims that she gets up at 4:30 a.m. "But I work out every day for about an hour and a half."
"And is that hour on your arms?" DeGeneres joked.
Obama, mother to daughters Sasha, 10, and Malia, 13, described her fitness routine to DeGeneres as "cardio and some weights, plyometric stuff (and) push-ups." (It seems that she's varied her routine since moving into the White House; in a 2009 interview for O magazine, Obama told Oprah Winfrey that she liked to jump rope, do kickboxing and run on the treadmill, and was considering taking up Pilates.)
Earlier in the interview, Michelle revealed that President Barack Obama has a very common husband flaw: he can't pick up after himself.
"No, he doesn't pick up his socks," said Michelle. "He thinks he's neat, but he has people who help him. I'm like, 'It's not you that's neat. It's the people who pick up your socks. Those are the neat people.'"
"In Chicago," she continued, "his idea of putting his suit away was hanging it on the edge of the door. It's like, 'There's a hanger!'"
But hey, as Mrs. Obama also pointed out, he sings really well!
