The Hunger Games and Twilight Win Big at 2012 MTV Movie Awards

The 2012 MTV Movie Awards proved that The Hunger Games is the latest film craze but Twilight is still a phenomenon. At the awards ceremony hosted by Russell Brand on Sunday night, the dystopian thriller picked up four popcorn trophies, but The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I  won the night's big prize of Best Movie.

It was a relatively mellow awards ceremony. The pre-taped segments, including a video tribute to Emma Stone (who won the night's Trailblazer Award) and a fake archery consultant behind-the-scenes segment starring Joel McHale were among the show's highlights.

As for the major categories, The Hunger Games won for Best Female Performance (Jennifer Lawrence); Best Male Performance (Josh Hutcherson); Best Fight (the two leads versus Alexander Ludwig) and Best On-Screen Transformation (Elizabeth Banks).

Banks' acceptance was particularly memorable, because the actress who plays the flamboyant Effie Trinket received her award from three Magic Mike stars: Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, and an in-costume (meaning, shirtless) Joe Manganiello, who kept the envelope in his pants.

"This is the best moment of my life," Banks joked as she cozied up to the three hunky actors.

Banks got more action in her acceptance speech than Kristen Stewart did for her Best Kiss win for Breaking Dawn. Without her on and off-screen love Robert Pattinson present, Stewart had no one to kiss for the audience. She even jokingly asked her Snow White and the Huntsman costars Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron -- and also Twilight pal Taylor Lautner -- for a smooch, but with nobody taking her up on her offer, she rather anti-climactically kissed herself.

Johnny Depp received the year's Generation Award but instead of a long speech got to rock out on stage with the Black Keys to perform "Gold on the Ceiling," and indie pop band Fun started the night off with their teen anthem "We Are Young."
