Late-night funnyman Jimmy Kimmel has been tapped to host to the White House Correspondents' Dinner next April.
The annual event is one of the most prestigious gigs a comedian can land, and Kimmel, 43, joins fellow entertainers such as Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Wanda Sykes, Seth Meyers, Jay Leno and Craig Ferguson on the list of those who had the chance to basically roast a sitting President (who traditionally attends the dinner with the first lady, vice president and other senior-level officials).
"I look forward to being a part of the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner," said Kimmel, the host of ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!, in a statement. "I love dinner."
The annual dinner draws a mix of press, politicians and celebrities, with the host able (and expected) to make some biting remarks and poke fun at not just the political climate but the audience members as well.
"Jimmy's humor is sophisticated and edgy while appealing to a wide audience," said Reuters journalist Caren Bohan, president of the White House Correspondents' Association. "We are thrilled that Jimmy has accepted our invitation to be the featured comedian at our annual dinner."
Let's just hope Jimmy's jokes don't go too far. The last thing you want is to be on President Obama's bad side!
