Elton John's Super Bowl Advice to Madonna: "Make Sure You Lip-Sync Good"

Elton John's Super Bowl Advice to Madonna: "Make Sure You Lip-Sync Good"

Elton John claims to have "never seen a decent" Super Bowl halftime show, and he doesn't expect a change to start this year. When the 64-year-old British rock star was asked his opinion about the upcoming mid-game entertainment during an interview with Good Morning America, he said he didn't expect headlining performer Madonna to impress him.

So what's his big advice for the 54-year-old Material Girl then? "Make sure you lip-sync good."

Ouch. But John was quick to defend his statement with his belief that it's hard to perform live in that big of an arena.

"Of course you have to play live, but I don't think you can," John says. "In all fairness to everyone who's done it before, I think you may be able to sing live, but it's really hard to play live."

That being said, there were two halftime shows that didn't totally stink. The "Rocket Man" singer admits that he thought The Rolling Stones and Prince gave "pretty good" performances during their years.

This comes hot on the heels of Madonna's recent feud with John's partner, David Furnish. Following Madge's surprising Golden Globe win for best original song, Furnish took to Facebook and wrote, "Madonna. Best song???? F--k off!!!"

Furnish quickly issued an apology. "Wow! What a tempest in a teapot. My comments regarding The Golden Globes have been blown way out of proportion," he wrote on his Facebook page. "My passion for our film Gnomeo & Juliet and belief in Elton's song really got my emotional juices going. But I must say for the record that I do believe Madonna is a great artist, and that Elton and I wish her all the best for next week's premiere of the film W.E."

So far, Madonna has been mum on the subject. But she does have a big week ahead of her. She'll premiere a preview for her Super Bowl-inspired music video for "Give Me All Your Luvin'" during American Idol on Thursday. The full song -- her first single off her new album MDNA, due out March 26 -- will debut Friday. And then Sunday, she'll do her best to "lip-sync good" when she performs at Super Bowl XLVI.
