Lana Del Rey Takes the "American Idol" Stage

While she was situated overseas for the Echo Awards in Berlin, a pre-taped performance from Lana Del Rey on "American Idol" made its televised debut on Thursday night (March 22).

The 25-year-old singer, who shot the footage the previous week, treated the Fox music competition series' audience to a rendition of her hit single "Video Games" from her debut album titled Born To Die.

The choice of Miss Del Rey had many reporters perplexed - as the show focuses on creating theatrical performers while Lana, as USA Today's Brian Mansfield aptly puts it, "charms through an unbroken commitment to brooding, almost plaintive vocals."

Nonetheless, Del Rey was relaxed and confident during her "Idol" effort, with the night also featuring last season's third place finisher Haley Reinhart singing her first single "Free".
