RATINGS RAT RACE: Olympic Trials Hit Decade High, ‘Extreme Makeover’ & ‘Secret Millionaire’ Fall To New Lows

It was all Olympics all night on NBC on Sunday and the network earned a gold. The live athletics started off with the U.S. Olympic Team Trials: Track and Field Finals (1.4/5) at 7 PM, which was down 7% from the Track and Field trials on July 6, 2008. Then it was the Swimming Finals (2.1/7), which was up 5% from the July 6, 2008 Swimming Trials. In fast nationals, Sunday’s Swimming Finals trials got the Silver for the second most watched Olympic trial since August 20, 2000 with an estimated 7.7 million overall viewers. Coming in for the Gold was the U.S. Olympic Team Trials: Gymnastics Women’s Final (3.2/9) from San Joes, CA which ran from 9 to 11:05 PM and pulled in 9.9 million viewers overall last night according to fast national estimates. This year’s Gymnastics Finals were up 60% from the Gymnastics Women’s Final that ran from 7 to 9 PM on June 22, 2008. NBC won the night in adults 18-49 and total viewers. ABC started the night with a repeat of America’ Funniest Home Videos (1.1/4), That was followed by a new Secret Millionaire (1.1/4), which was down 27% from its last original show three weeks ago.
