Jessica Chastain & Woody Harrelson Are PETA's Sexiest Vegetarians

As if you needed another reason to eat your veggies, here are two real-life inspirations: Jessica Chastain and Woody Harrelson. The stars of The Help and The Hunger Games, respectively, have been named the Sexiest Vegetarians of 2012 by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

Chastain, 35, has been a vegetarian for more than 15 years and a vegan for more than five. Though she has the support of her family (her mother runs a vegan restaurant in North Carolina), her diet has sometimes proved a challenge on movie sets.

"The scene where I was eating fried chicken, they made me vegan fried chicken," Chastain said after working on The Help. "It probably [didn't taste as good] as fried chicken. They did an amazing job. They took a turkey dog and tofurkey and battered it, and deep fried it."

The low-cal vegan diet also makes it tough for Chastain to gain weight (poor thing!), so she resorted to guzzling melted soy ice cream to play curvy Southern beauty Celia Foote.

"It was disgusting, [but] wait till you see my boobs in the movie," she joked to E! News before the film's release.

Afterward, though, the redheaded actress had little trouble shedding the extra pounds. Thanks to yoga and veganism, says Chastain, "I lose weight really quick."

Woody Harrelson, 50, went vegan in his mid-20s. The former Cheers actor swears that the diet has given him clearer skin and more energy.

"I used to eat burgers and steak, and I would just be knocked out afterward; I had to give it up," he told Maxim in 2009. "The first thing was dairy. I was about 24 years old and I had tons of acne and mucus. I met some random girl on a bus who told me to quit dairy and all those symptoms would go away three days later. By God she was right."

Sounds like the random girl on the bus deserves a PETA award herself!

Like Chastain, Harrelson has stuck to his guns on film sets. When his character had to eat a Twinkie in Zombieland, the prop team constructed a fake one out of cornmeal. "It could spur a healthy Twinkie revolution," Woody joked.

A noted environmental activist as well as a sexy vegan, Harrelson has often spoken out in favor of healthy and sustainable diets, and was an advocate for the Healthy School Meals Act of 2010.

Previous recipients of PETA's Sexiest Vegetarian title include Russell Brand, Kristen Wiig, Leona Lewis, Anthony Kiedis, Kellie Pickler, Carrie Underwood, Prince, Kristen Bell and Bill Clinton. This year, they've also named a non-celebrity "Sexiest Vegetarian Next Door," this very handsome waiter from Brooklyn. Are you craving almond milk yet?
