Adele Undergoes Throat Surgery

Adele Undergoes Throat Surgery

Adele could use her fans' get-well wishes. The 23-year-old singer underwent laser microsurgery in Boston to repair damaged, hemorrhaging vocal cords that caused her to cancel most of her concert dates this year.

Dr. Steven M. Zeitels, director of Massachusetts General Hospital's Voice Center, "expects Adele to make a full recovery from her laser microsurgery," the hospital said in a statement. Zeitels is no stranger to repairing the vocal cords of famous singers. He also treated Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, among other professional singers, Rolling Stone reports.

The statement continues: "Based on the advice of her doctor and voice therapist in the United Kingdom, Adele came to Boston to consult and undergo corrective voice surgery with Dr. Zeitels, the Director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Voice Center. Dr. Zeitels, who is also the Eugene B. Casey Professor of Laryngeal Surgery at Harvard Medical School, has pioneered many vocal cord surgical procedures including the use of specialized lasers to stop vocal cord bleeding in singers."

The Grammy winner's throat problems were so severe she had to dispel rumors she was suffering from throat cancer.

"We would like to reiterate that Adele is to undergo surgery for a hemorrhaged vocal chord," her rep told Us Weekly. "All reports regarding any other condition are 100 percent false."

Last month, Adele announced she had to cancel her remaining 2011 performances and promotional appearances in order to rest her vocal cords, have her surgery, and then fully recuperate.

Here's hoping the English songstress recover quickly, so she can get back to what she loves best -- belting out her soulful songs.
